American Gamefowl

American Gamefowl strains are related to Old English Game and former Mediterranean Fighter strains. US cockers developed lots of strains, called after the breeder/founder or after colour or head shape. They are called Sweater, Butcher, Hatch, Kelso, Whitehackle, Blacks, Browns, Reds, Blues, and Roundhead. Those roosters are fighting with their own sharp spurs or with gaffs, and slashers in several lengths. The slasher is fixed to the left leg only and gaffs to both. The roosters are striking bone hard and pointing on head, neck or body parts. They are bred and used in US, South America and Philippines. Mostly they have a straight or single comb. Those with pea comb are called “Sweater”. There are a lot of combinations between the strains and they also are crossing them after the leg colours. Some have several types casual kind of fighting style: For example Sweaters are hesitating at beginning of fight. Their characteristic is, to “dance” to the enemy (= assessment). They have bred nearly all colours, but mostly wheaten and partridge, after breeder’s taste.
Weights from 1,8 to 2, 5 kg.
